Frequently Asked Questions

Q:        Why is the Club making these changes to the membership format?

A:         Over the years, the Club offered a variety of special programs to attract members. The cumulative result is that we currently have over 21 different types of golf memberships, ranging from 1-month memberships to 12-month memberships. Each of these has a different cost structure, resulting in a series of issues:

1.         Accounting and administration of the different memberships is a significant challenge.
2.         The different membership types lead to great confusion among members and potential members.
3.         There are inequities from a pricing standpoint.

Q:        Membership dues have always included trail fees. Why has the Club decided to split trail fees and member dues?

A:         One of our goals is to grow membership, and to accomplish this, we believe that we need to attract potential members in Peoria, Glendale and other surrounding areas.  Splitting trail fees and member dues allows fair pricing to those with and without private carts. While many of our Sun City Members have private carts, most in the surrounding areas do not. Despite the fact that these charges are now separated, the bottom line for legacy Members is virtually unchanged. For example, a 12-month Member golf couple paid $423/month ($398 dues and $25 water fee) when we acquired the Club. This included the use of a private cart. Under the new format, a 12‑month Member golf couple will pay $425 ($375 in dues and $50 for a private cart).

Q:        How will the Club monitor private carts and trail fees?
A:         Beginning November 1, 2018, all private cart owners will receive a medallion to be displayed prominently on their cart.  Players wishing to use a private cart without a medallion will be charged a daily trail fee of $15.  Only one trail fee will be charged per couple.

Q:        Why is the Club eliminating short-term (1-5 month) memberships?

A:         In many areas of the country, golf courses close in the off-season and maintenance costs go down dramatically. In the Phoenix area, golf courses stay open in the summer off-season and maintenance costs increase due to water usage, electricity costs, and mowing costs. Short-term in-season memberships do not reflect the annual needs of the Club.

Q:        What options will current short-term (1-5 month) Members have?

A:         Many of our 1-5 month Members are long-term, valued Members of the Club. We have tried to develop options to meet their various needs. For active golfers, 6-month* memberships are available. For Social Members, we will offer monthly social pricing ($69 per month for singles, $99 per month for couples) for up to six months. This offer is only for current 1-5 month Members and will not be offered in the future to new Members. In addition, we are excited to offer the new Golf with Points Plan that will provide a significant discount to regular price golf along with a 10-day advance booking window.

A:         Yes.

Q:        Can a Social Member pair a social membership with a Points Plan?
A:         Yes.

Q:        Does ownership plan to continue as a membership club?

A:         Yes, we continue to believe in the membership model, and that Sun City and the West Valley benefit from the country club model.

Q:        What are Palmbrook’s plans regarding public (non-member) golf play and events?
A:         Currently, public golf and event revenue is critical to the financial well-being of the club. Long term, our goal is to grow membership and reduce the overall need for public play and events.

Q:        With the 6-month membership, can I pick the six-month period I would like?

A:         No, all 6-month memberships run from November 1 through April 30.

Q:        I am only in the area for four months. Is there a way I could change the 6-month membership to a shorter term?

A:         No, we have found that creating special membership categories creates issues that ultimately impact the Club and Members in adverse ways. We are offering a 12-month membership, a 6-month membership, and our new Golf with Points Plan to provide a variety of programs to meet various golf needs while helping to ensure the long-term success of the Club.

Q:        Is there a cap on the number of 6-month Golf memberships the Club will allow?
A:         Yes, there is a cap on the number of 6-month Golf memberships. Once that number is reached, a waiting list will be started for potential 6-month members.

Q:        Will the Club be reinstating an initiation fee?

A:         Yes, the Club will begin charging an initiation fee of $1,000 for Golf memberships beginning November 15th, 2018. At this time, there is no initiation fee for Social memberships.
